ThE TEAM

For Pep Cifre, the manager of Can Axartell, it is clear: the heart of this winery is the team. Some have been working together since it was founded in 1997. Although it is spread across Mallorca and Hamburg, the relationships are very close and the exchange is intensive. The Can Axartell core team includes the following members:

Pep Cifre - Winery management

When Pep met the owner of Can Axartell in 1997, he was still working on his doctoral thesis on agricultural engineering. But he was fascinated by the possibilities that Can Axartell offered. From this point on, he combined research and concrete implementation. He directs Can Axartell and is also professor and vice dean at the Faculty of Sciences at the Universitat de les Illes Balears in Palma de Mallorca.

Joan Manuel Ochogavia – Cellar master

During his studies, which he completed as a technical agricultural engineer, Joan Manuel worked at various wineries during semester breaks and during internships and gained practical experience. In 2010 he started working alongside Rosa Pons in the vineyards of Can Axartell. When a new specialist was sought for the position of cellar master in 2012, Joan Manuel was predestined for this job, which he carries out with great care and dedication.

Rosa Pons – External operations management for vineyards and olive groves

Like Pep Cifre, Rosa Pons studied agricultural sciences and received her doctorate in agricultural machinery technology. After several years of teaching at a higher agricultural college and involvement in the agricultural sector, she started working at Can Axartell. Her home is nature, and so she has been actively leading the work in the vineyards and olive groves of Can Axartell since 2003, ensuring that all processes are carried out according to strict ecological principles and that the vines, olive groves and other agricultural areas are well looked after.

Antoni Genovart Quetglas – Business Development

I'm pleased to introduce myself as Antoni Genovart, a passionate wine enthusiast and a sales professional. My dedication to this industry, along with my sales experience, has allowed me to develop a deep understanding and appreciation for wine, making it a product I not only sell but also live and breathe. My curiosity for wines was awakened at an early age by my father and never waned until my first professional encounter with the world of wine, which was 8 years ago at one of Mallorca's largest and oldest wineries when I was 25 years old. I began training in sommelier skills at the Hotel School of the Balearic Islands, reaching level 3 of the WSET program in Ireland, where I spent two years working in various high-end restaurants as a sommelier while preparing for the diploma. My passion for wine is evident in my ability to convey enthusiasm and knowledge to customers.

Karl Heimers – Business Development and Customer Relations

Karl Heimer's homeland is the vineyards in Rheinhessen, where his family runs a winery. But he was interested in economics, where he specialized in marketing and environmental management. Since 2018, Karl has been responsible for customer relationships specifically in German-speaking countries and, together with Agusti, he is responsible for building relationships in other international markets. In parallel to his work, he is currently preparing to obtain his diploma at the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET).

Sebastià Crespí – Sales and events

My passion for wine started when I was very young, self-taught at the beginning. Drinking homemade wine produced by the family in the valley of Sóller. I studied Food & Beverage management in Palma, and then focused on the commercial world of the wine sector, acquiring knowledge of marketing and sales in Barcelona. Now I manage the sales and distribution department for the local market in Can Axartell. I consider myself a Sybarite of life, where a good glass of wine is a must.
